Gemstones are created by nature, and they are usually imperfect owing to their innate characteristics and growth environment. This is especially true for rubies. In the gem market, various treatment methods have been reported applied to rubies with poor color or low clarity, for example, heating, lead-glass filling, organic filling, and beryllium diffusion, which are all common treatments applied to rubies. What is the difference in stability of rubies treated by these methods? This paper will elaborate on this.

The color of Tahitian pearls is various, thus, it is necessary to confirm their color origin. A combined technique of UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, Raman, Ultrashort ultraviolet light and EDXRF is used to determine whether the Tahitian pearls have been treated. In this article, we analyzed the testing results of Tahitian pearls with different body colors.
